Danish Wound Healing Society (DWHS)

Danish Wound Healing Society was founded in 1992 by a group of doctors and nurses interested in wound healing and management. At that time no functional wound healing societies was in any of the Scandinavian countries.

Aim:
Danish Wound Healing Society was founded in order to:
1. Organize and co-ordinate its own congresses and meetings and make joint meetings in connection with other national as well as international societies which have similar interests.
2. Increase and support education and research in the area of wound healing, especially related to types of wounds, epimediology, pathogenesis, pathology, diagnostic, prevention and treatment of wounds with different aetiology.
3. Improve friendship and collaboration between groups working in wound healing and wound care in Denmark.
4. Work for a better collaboration between organisations, companies and the single person with interest in all types of wound healing and wound care.

Organisation:
The Society board consists of 8 board members (4 medical doctors and 4 nurses).
The Society has established three subgroups.
The publishing information group takes care of the publishing of the journal of the Society: "Sår" (English: Wound). The journal is published quarterly and is free for members of DWHS. Presently it has almost 2000 subscribers including members from Denmark of (DWHS) Norway (Norwegian Wound Healing Society) and Sweden. Surveys as well as original articles are published. New literature is reviewed and future meetings and congresses are announced. In the journal it is also possible to debate all types of health care problems related to wound healing and care.
The journal can be ordered by all independent of Nationality. The price presently is 50 DKr/issue + mailing price. In case of membership of DWHS 4 yearly issue is included.

The educational group takes care of meetings, workshops and congresses arranged by the Society.

The Organisation group focus on the best way to organise wound care in the health care system.

DWHS is furthermore involved in national as well as international arrangements in corporations with other societies and groups in this area of interest.

In 1994 the first meeting of European Wound Management Association outside England was arranged in Copenhagen and supported by DWHS. In 1998 The European Tissue Repair Society assembled almost a 1000 participants in Copenhagen and this meeting was also supported by DWHS. In 2004 the 2nd. Congress of the World Union of Wound Healing Societies in Paris, France will be supported by DWHS.

Membership:
Personal membership is open for all health care personal interested in wound healing and management. Membership is open for all interested independent of nationality. Also non health care personal active in research or other activities related to wound healing and wound care can be members. Members from commercial companies or other type of commercial institutions cannot vote or be members of the board. Companies can be sponsor members by paying a sponsor fee each year. These members have advantages like especially announcement in our journal and a certain area of free exhibition at the annual meeting of the Society congress.
Presently the Society has 1000 members and 24 sponsors. The annual membership fee presently is 275 DKr, which includes 4 yearly issues of the journal Sår.

Anniversary:
In 2002 the Society celebrated 10 years anniversary. The conference consists of a one-day meeting of the First International Workshop on Multidisciplinary Concepts in Wound Healing. The background for the meeting is the growing international understanding of the importance of a definition of a multidisciplinary approach and structure of the wound healing area in the future. More than 60 key opinion leaders from all over the world participated.
The second part was the 10 year Anniversary meeting continuing three-days and with participation from all countries in Scandinavia. The meeting was a manifestation of the importance of the wound area in Denmark as well as in the rest of the Scandinavia.
